Nathan Tinkham Sings WILF CARTER

January 15, 2009

Long time session guitarist and sideman, Nathan Tinkham has released his first solo CD entitled Nathan Tinkham Sings Wilf Carter.  This CD has been a long time in the making and Nathan has just returned from a successful tour in the Maritimes playing his songs of Wilf Carter.
Nathan will be touring Alberta in the spring with this new CD.

Wilf Carter made his mark in Canada and world with a career that lasted for more than 60 years.  From the glimmer of an idea as a child until his death in 1996, Wilf Carter was true to his fans and his ideals everywhere he went.  In his quiet way, Wilf Carter became one of the most influential singers & songwriters in country music history.  He almost single handedly invented and defined the cowboy singer and was an inspiration to Gene Autry, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggart and including Alberta’s own Ian Tyson.
Wilf Carter and Nathan Tinkham

In 1995, Nathan Tinkham put together a retrospective gleaned from many hours of interviews with Wilf and friends.  Wilf’s story is an amazing one.  From his humble beginnings as the son of a Nova Scotia preacher to his performances on the world stage he made his fans one by one. Wilf’s music was the real thing.  That was back in the 1930s and it’s just as true today. With Wilf’s blessing, Nathan tells the story of how Wilf achieved his dream of being a cowboy singer and performs some of Wilf’s most popular songs.
